December 14th - December 18th

Grades 5 - 9 are currently working through their Dance Creation projects and for the most part are coming together quite nicely.  I am always impressed with the creativity that students are able to exhibit during these projects.
It is great to see students' strengths and passions come out, as it is clear to see that we have a number of students with a dance background, ranging from ballet to hip hop.  Conversely, it is also nice to see students challenged in movement activities that they are not used to, that do not fit into traditional sport patterns, that the students struggle with, which is not the ordinary for these accomplished athletes.
Presentations will begin next week.

Sunday 6 December 2015

December 7th - December 11th

Students will be working in groups this week to create their own dance to present to their classmates.  This is always a favourite among the students as they are able to work with their peers to come develop their own dances and add their own style and music to their performance.  We look forward to seeing what they come up with!

Friday 4 December 2015

November 30th - December 3rd

We have started our Dance unit!  With grades 5 - 8 learning various line dances such as Boot Scootin' & Cadillac Ranch.  The grade 8's have transitioned to partner dancing while the grade 9's have been learning the jive the whole week.  We have worked on a few different components such as a lady's turn, guy's turn, arm slide, and octopus among others.  Parents, please ask your son/daughter to dance and get them to show you their new dance steps!

Week of October 26-30th

All students in Grades 5-9 Physical Education will be completing a Low Organized Games Unit (LOGs) this week while half of the Grade 9s are in Quebec.  This unit will consist of a variety of game that the entire grade will participate in.  We are going to try to be outside for as much of the week as we can (weather permitting).  We have asked that all students come prepared to be outside and to check the white board near the PE Office each morning to let them know what we will be doing and where we will be.

Modules will resume next week with Health A, Basketball and Lacrosse/Field Hockey.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Simpson, Mr. Groves and Mrs. Park
