Feb 16 - Feb 20th

PE 5-9 will be receiving their assessments for their last units, in addition to completing a survey on bullying at Elboya.

We enjoy very well behaved students at Elboya, but it is important for us to understand the incidents that do happen, get a handle on the ones we are not aware of, and collect more information in general about it.  It is important that all students feel comfortable when they come to school.

As PE shares the gym, there will be a couple days where we will have to accommodate other programming in the school which will move us out of our space, which will mean alternate programs for our students.

January 18th - January 22nd

Students in Grades 5 through 9 will be starting a new round of modules this week.  They are as follows:

Health A - Drama Room
Hand Ball - Main Gym
Table Tennis (Ping Pong) - CORE

A reminder that ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES 5 - 9 MUST HAND IN a Human Sexuality Form by January 19th, stating whether or not they are participating in the unit.  Students who opt out of the unit will complete an alternate assignment instead.  If parents have questions, they can reach Mrs. Park or Mrs. Simpson by email, or come in January 19th from 3:30 - 5:00 to view the content and lessons their child will be doing in class.

Have a great week!

January 11 - January 15

Happy New Year and welcome back!

Last week, students started their new modules for Physical Education.  The options are Broom Ball, Floor Hockey and Health Group C.

This week, students will participate in their second week of these modules.  Students who are in Broom Ball are reminded to please dress for the weather.  Any student who is not prepared to go outside will stay inside on the stage to complete an assignment and will be supervised by Mrs. Simpson.

It's that time of year again! During the months of February and March, students in Grades 4 to 9 will be taking the Human Sexuality Unit in Health classes.  We have decided to teach the Human Sexuality Unit in Health earlier than in previous years.

ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES 5 to 9 received a letter to take home on Friday.  It explains the curriculum for each grade, provides parents with links to the resources we use in the lessons and has our contact information if you have any questions.

ALL students are required to bring back the last page of the letter with either a Yes or a No for their participation in the unit BY JANUARY 19th.

There will be an opportunity to come in and ask questions or to view the resources we are using JANUARY 19th from 3:30 - 5:00 pm in the Drama Room (Room 13).  Mrs. Park and Mrs. Simpson will be available to answer any questions you may have.

If you have any questions, email is the best way to reach us.

Have a great week!

December 14th - December 18th

Grades 5 - 9 are currently working through their Dance Creation projects and for the most part are coming together quite nicely.  I am always impressed with the creativity that students are able to exhibit during these projects.
It is great to see students' strengths and passions come out, as it is clear to see that we have a number of students with a dance background, ranging from ballet to hip hop.  Conversely, it is also nice to see students challenged in movement activities that they are not used to, that do not fit into traditional sport patterns, that the students struggle with, which is not the ordinary for these accomplished athletes.
Presentations will begin next week.

December 7th - December 11th

Students will be working in groups this week to create their own dance to present to their classmates.  This is always a favourite among the students as they are able to work with their peers to come develop their own dances and add their own style and music to their performance.  We look forward to seeing what they come up with!

November 30th - December 3rd

We have started our Dance unit!  With grades 5 - 8 learning various line dances such as Boot Scootin' & Cadillac Ranch.  The grade 8's have transitioned to partner dancing while the grade 9's have been learning the jive the whole week.  We have worked on a few different components such as a lady's turn, guy's turn, arm slide, and octopus among others.  Parents, please ask your son/daughter to dance and get them to show you their new dance steps!
